CASHTRONAUTS NOT ASTRONAUTS

Whatever side of the argument you fall on, Jeff Bezos and Richard Branson went very high up and came back down last week. But, while officially commercial astronauts, the pair aren't astronauts, according to the Commercial Astronaut Wings programme created by the FAA. To qualify as commercial astronauts, space-goers must travel 50 miles (80km) above the Earth's surface, which Mr Bezos and Mr Branson accomplished. Altitude isn't the key here; it's your mission. The agency says would-be astronauts must have also "demonstrated activities during flight that were essential to public safety, or contributed to human space flight safety".
That’s Bezos and Branson out. They were pretty much joyriders. Professor Scott Galloway has a blistering piece this week (full link below):

Space hasn’t changed, but it sure seems a lot closer thanks to the group of young, old and filthy rich. Will we see full commercial spaceflight in our lifetime? Possibly, it won’t be cheap but it will be a gamechanger when it works for all.

__ DO __ Think about the opportunities that space offers your brand. Launchpad sponsorships, creation, tourism, merch, experiments, everything is up for grabs. // __ DON'T __ Think space is a free-for-all. It isn’t. Speaking with Space Analyst Laura Sweart Forczyk, recently on Mouthwash, the future is open, but there are strict rules in place. Elon Musk is ahead, but the race is not over yet.

NOTE: Mouthwash Season Two ends this week! This season we’re exploring POWER! Another full week of guests and we’re covering influencers, female empowerment, trust, power, uncertainty and more. Tune-in live on Twitter Spaces 8pm BST / 3pm EST / 12pm PST. Find out more here.
