YOUTUBE WILL START HIDING DISLIKES
YouTube will start hiding public dislike counts on videos to keep smaller creators from targeted dislike attacks, following a test in March. While most see this as a positive thing, some say it will mean more scams as people use the down thumb to report scams (and not the official report functionality). Now add by turning off comments and you have a possibly dangerous space. Silencing negative feedback isn’t always the answer or the best approach, especially for YouTube. The bigger issue here is the YouTube algorithm; bad results shouldn’t be getting pushed into search results. Some have commented that this is for the advertisers (think about trailers getting downvoted etc), but this will give smaller Creators a better chance of making it.
__ DO __ Expect this to go through without much fanfare. Despite the issues, most people won’t care or miss the thumbs down as we all push for a happier/slappier internet. // __ DON'T __ Think this will be the last of the anti-negative UI/UX experiments on YouTube or other platforms. A feature that publicly allows and highlights lots of people disliking certain content sets a tone for your app. A tone that YouTube certainly doesn't need to help foster further roots.
